PLACES YOU WILL VISIT
DAY 1 - UDAWALAWE
UDAWALAWE MORNING SAFARI
Start your day with an early morning departure to Udawalawe, a two-hour drive from Ahungalla. Udawalawe National Park is one of the finest destinations to witness large herds of elephants roaming freely in their natural habitat. The park is also home to a rich array of wildlife, including 184 species of birds, 43 species of mammals, and 33 species of reptiles. As the sun rises, embark on an unforgettable safari through the wilderness, where you can spot majestic elephants, elusive leopards, water buffalo, and an array of exotic birdlife.
ELEPHANT TRANSIT HOME
After an exhilarating three-hour safari, visit the Udawalawe Elephant Transit Home, a sanctuary dedicated to the rehabilitation of orphaned and injured elephants. Located just 20 minutes from the national park, this facility—supported by the Born Free Foundation (UK)—provides a heartwarming experience as you witness the young elephants being bottle-fed during feeding time. From behind a protective barrier, observe these gentle giants eagerly gathering for their meal, some trumpeting with excitement, while others playfully interact with their caretakers.
YALA NATIONAL PARK
Rise early and head to Yala National Park, Sri Lanka’s second-largest and most visited wildlife reserve. Renowned for its dense leopard population—the highest in the world—Yala offers an unparalleled opportunity to spot these elusive big cats in their natural habitat. As you venture through the diverse ecosystems of the park, keep an eye out for elephants, sloth bears, spotted deer, crocodiles, and over 215 species of birds. After an exciting three-hour safari, begin your journey back to Ahungalla.
DAY 2 - SOUTHERN PART OF SRI LANKA
GALLE DUTCH FORT
On your return journey to Ahungalla, take the opportunity to explore the cultural and historical highlights of Sri Lanka’s southern coast. Witness the fascinating tradition of stilt fishing, where local fishermen skillfully balance on wooden poles above the waves. Discover the timeless charm of Galle Dutch Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site boasting colonial-era architecture, cobblestone streets, and breathtaking ocean views. Visit the Tsunami Museum, a poignant tribute to the 2004 disaster, offering deep insight into its impact. Finally, explore the moonstone mines of Meetiyagoda, where these rare, luminous gems are unearthed and crafted into stunning jewelry.
